Dr. Louis Shultz passed away Saturday,
December 1, 2007
We will all miss him.
D
Dear Colleagues,
Some of us knew Louis as the first anatomy teacher Ida appointed.
Some of us knew him as a Rolfer and movement teacher. Even more have
known him as the co-author of such very useful books as Remembering
Ida Rolf, The Endless Web, and Out in the Open: The Complete Male
Pelvis. Many of us have been lucky enough to know him as a friend, a
source of excellent information on Ida and Rolfing, an enthusiastic
bon vivant and a wry social observer.
Louis died last Saturday morning, leaving a physical vehicle he knew
had gone as far as it could go. A couple of weeks ago, his
determination got him out of the hospital to enjoy the party at which
he celebrated his 80th birthday with friends and family, and with his
close friend Rosemary Feitis, who was celebrating her 70th. Soon
after, his breathing deteriorated and he was back in the hospital.
Late last week, he declined intubation, and so was given morphine to
make him comfortable. I am told that Louis died peacefully in the
company of a number of people who loved him.
His knowledge — and his dry sense of humor will be missed.

R. Louis Schultz trained as a Rolfer in 1973. The following year he established the anatomy program for the Rolf Institute. At Dr. Rolf’s request, he and Dr. Rosemary Fetis wrote The Endless Web. They also edited Remembering Ida Rolf. Dr. Shultz is also the author of The Complete Male Pelvis, and over forty scientific publications. I spoke to him at his home in New York. He is a partner in Village Rolfing, with Marcelo Coutinho.

This is an excerpt from an interview with Sharon Hancoff.
Sharon was about 19 when she trained as a Rolfer. Dr. Rolf referred to her as her "artistic experiment." Dr. Rolf did not want her to learn anatomy because Sharon could see bodies the way Dr. Rolf saw them. This is an excerpt from the interview with Sharon. She shared many stories and insights of the work, Dr. Rolf, and her continual exploration of what is possible with SI. She holds classes across the country on working with scar tissue, the Art of Rolfing, and others. Her next workshop will be on Phoneix, for more information contact Shonnie Carson.

Tom wing was Rolfed in 1970, and decided that was what he wanted to do, and he has. He has been doing this work for over thirty years, teaching for most of them. Tom recently joined the faculty of the Guild for Structural Integration. Liz Stewart, who is also a teacher for the GSI, conducts the interview. She and Tom will be teaching a class together in Boulder in Jan. 2008. Tom describes his first encounter with Dr. Rolf, in which she tells him he is an imploded mesomorph, how she sees that, and what she thinks of his chances to become a Rolfer. Tom shares his insightful stories and his insights.
In May, 2008, Tom and Emmett Hutchins will teach an advanced class together (which I think should be titled "Message from the Masters") in Kauai, Hawaii. This is an unprecedented opportunity to work with these two great masters at one time. See Schedule
Tom will also lead an advanced class in Boulder in July of 2008. See Schedule

Tom Wing - discusses his selection interview with Dr. Rolf, Her vision, seeing, looking, and so much more with Liz Stewart:
